Saudi Arabian airline industry sees a rapid boom in travel

Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector experienced a significant surge in 2022, with airports across the Kingdom recording over 93.5 million tourists. This figure includes approximately 77 million domestic visitors and 16.5 million international tourists, highlighting the robust growth of the sector.

The impressive increase in tourist numbers has been largely attributed to a series of regulatory adjustments designed to facilitate easier access to the Saudi Arabian Kingdom. Among these changes is the introduction of the new “Visiting Investor” visa, which was approved by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment and the Foreign Affairs department. This visa is part of a broader effort to streamline the entry process for international investors and promote Saudi Arabia as a prime destination for business and tourism.

In a significant move to modernise and simplify the visa application process, the Kingdom has implemented an e-visa service scheme. This digital platform allows international investors to apply for visas online, eliminating the previously required visits to Saudi embassies. Initially covering nearly 60 nations, the e-visa scheme has now been expanded to include all countries worldwide. This expansion is expected to further increase the number of international visitors and investors coming to Saudi Arabia.

These regulatory reforms are part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the country’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil revenues. By enhancing its tourism sector, the Kingdom seeks to make tourism its second-largest revenue source by the end of the decade. The reforms are also intended to showcase Saudi Arabia’s rich history, diverse landscapes, and cultural heritage to the world.
