In brief: Which companies do you think have the best reputation among Americans, and which have the worst? Tech firms happen to make up much of the top and bottom ten on the list of 100 brands' reputation rankings, with the star of the moment, Nvidia, sitting in the number one spot.

The latest annual survey of corporate images by the Harris Poll and Axios surveyed 16,500 Americans about the reputations of companies.

Participants were first asked to name two companies with the best reputations and two with the worst, determining the 100 most visible firms. Later, they were asked to pick brands they knew from this list and rate two that they were "very or somewhat" familiar with on nine dimensions of reputation. Here's the top most reputable ones:

2024 rank Company 2024 score Change in rank
#1 Nvidia 81.2
#2 3M 81.0 9
#3 Fidelity Investments 79.9 26
#4 Sony 79.8 8
#5 Adidas 79.4 17
#6 USAA 79.3 3
#7 Honda Motor Company 79.3 6
#8 Patagonia 79.1 −7
#9 Apple 79.0 1
#10 Samsung 78.8 3

Sitting in the number one position is Nvidia, a new entry on the chart with a Reputational Quotient score of 81.2. Team Green has come under the spotlight like no other company in recent times as it provides the advanced hardware underpinning the generative AI revolution.

Unlike virtually every other tech firm that has made mass layoffs recently, it's been 15 years since Nvidia laid off employees. A survey last year found that 97% of Nvidia employees said it was a great place to work, and CEO Jensen Huang has been voted the most popular CEO by US professionals.

It seems Nvidia's reputation has rebounded after it told Hardware Unboxed (and by extension TechSpot) in 2020 that it would no longer be providing it with GeForce Founders Edition review units because the YouTube channel spent too little time focusing on RTX ray tracing, as opposed to raster performance. The high price of the Lovelace cards didn't do it any favors, either.

Other tech firms appear in the top 10 list, including Sony at 4, Apple at 9, and Samsung at 10.

The least reputable companies on the list make for interesting reading. Reddit, which this year has agreed to make its user content available to OpenAI and Google to train their AI systems, is at 90.

2024 rank Company 2024 score Change in rank
#90 Reddit 65.0
#91 Dollar Tree 64.5 2
#92 Wells Fargo & Company 63.4 4
#93 Shein 62.1 8
#94 Silicon Valley Bank 61.4
#95 TikTok 60.7 1
#96 Fox Corporation 60.3 2
#97 Meta 59.6 1
#98 Spirit Airlines 59.1 3
#99 X (Twitter) 58.8 2
#100 The Trump Organization 54.0

TikTok, the Chinese-owned app that looks increasingly likely to be banned in the US next year over its alleged ties to the Beijing government, is at 95.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp owner Meta, a company that has never had the best reputation for a multitude of reasons, is at 97.

The only tech firm with a worse rep than Meta is former Twitter platform X in 99th place. X's public image declined after Elon Musk took over following his decision to slash its moderation team headcount and allow previously banned accounts back on the site. The Trump Organization remains at the bottom of the list, where it's been since 2019.

Nvidia such a successful company with a story of true struggles and ultimate success Vs. the Trump Media Organization that while is run with plenty of wealth it still synonymous of bankruptcy, scandal and mismanagement.
Only "synonymous" to the uneducated, misinformed, and those willing to lie to further a political cause. Trump Org followed legal standard industry policy to a T in applying for loans in New York state, and the banks all involved stated Trump was their best customer, all loans were repaid on time, and they performed their own evaluations in each and every case -- as required by law and even advised to by Trump Org -- and agreed the loans were worthy at the agreed-upon terms. Seriously, what sort of clueless half-wit loon believe anyone can go to a bank and ask for a few hundred million dollars, without them verifying the proper collateral exists?

In making this case, political-minded prosecutors sunk so low as to value Mar-a-Lago at a mere $18M, despite the fact that 6- and 7-br homes on the same street on 1/2 acre were selling for $50M. Mar-a-Lago sits on 20 acres of waterfront property, has 100+ rooms, and is in the registry of National Historical Landmarks. They based this claim on the absurd statement that "Palm Beach taxed it at that amount", despite testimony from the County that tax assessments on such properties have nothing whatsoever to do with fair market value -- they're based solely on annual revenues received on the property.

If you think that politics is the only reason the Trump Organization is at the bottom of the list then, like @yRaz said, you really must think kool-aid is delicious.

Thank you for setting the record straight. I am considering dropping techspot for the political post. I come here for Tech not politics and definatly no partisan politics.

The contrast couldn't possibly be greater.
Let's see, Nvidia...tech company, Trump org, mostly realestate. Like comparing apples and oranges. BULLCrap

Ah yes, poor Donald Trump. Everyone is out to get him! The guy is more innocent than a new born lamb and never hurt, cheated, insulted, or demeaned anyone in his life! Oh wait.... the guy was born with a silver spoon up his butt and never worked an honest day's work in his entire life. Fun fact, he has never actually held down any job his whole life, except the meaningless titles like CEO that he gave himself using his daddy's money. He had three different wives and cheated on all of them. What a model citizen and husband he is! I didn't even bother reading your nonsense about Mar-A-Lago and how it's the most valuable property in the world. According to Trump it's worth $1.5 billion! More than 3x the value of the most expensive private property in America.

Most of your post is the usual drivel, but I will respond to the claim that Mar-a-Lago is "overvalued" (an $18M value was used as the basis of the claim Leticia James used in her civil suit against Trump. Six-BR homes on the same street as Mar-a-Lago are selling for $70M and up, and bare 1-acre lots are selling for $50M. Mar-a-Lago sits on 20 acres with ocean view on both sides, has 100 rooms and a functioning golf course, and is registered as a National Historic Landmark. The (anti-Trump) publication Forbes valued it at $350M+ several years ago, and other realtors have priced it much higher. In any case, the highest it was ever listed for collateral on any loan was $300M -- and the bank that loaned money against it performed it's own independent valuation.

As for "everyone" being out to get Trump, why not that isn't true. Just the most vocal members of the fascist Left.

Jan 2023: "Trump Organization found guilty on all 17 counts of criminal tax fraud." Trump famously micro-manages his small core business, and obviously knew about this, but long-time CFO Allen Weisselberg took the rap for him and is now in prison instead.

The State of New York also recently got him for falsifying financial statements to obtain loans at lower rates. Said AG Letitia James: "Donald Trump is finally facing accountability for his lying, cheating, and staggering fraud. Because no matter how big, rich, or powerful you think you are, no one is above the law.”

Trump uses mob-speak and works through unscrupulous lawyers to maintain attorney-client privilege. And moves assets through hundreds of shell companies. So it is extremely hard to pin even the most obvious crimes on him personally.

Still, it now looks like Manhattan will get him for falsifying business documents to cover up paying off a porn star for sex. While Melania was nursing their new son. Because if that came out right after his bragging about sexually assaulting helpless young starlets it might have cost him the 2016 election. Women who have had to live with that all their lives btw.

The US Senate is beginning to look at his recent explicit offer to Big Oil executives to gut all federal regulations they dislike in exchange for $1B to win the election. He pointed out that they'd make far more than that in return! Trump will sell anything he can get his hands on. The poster child of "venal".

Then of course there's the Jan 6 DC indictment for trying to overthrow our government; and similar charges in Georgia.

And about 53 of his Fake Electors being indicted in multiple states, also for trying to overthrow the election. Including his right-hand men and women who organized that for him.

And the theft and illegal retention of boxes of our ultra-secret documents, evidently as a going-away present to himself. Maybe for resale.

It just goes on and on. Our system is having a tough time dealing with a man so totally corrupt rising to the highest office in the land. Almost unforeseen and certainly unprecedented. A demagogue now openly promising concentration camps, a national police, the arrest of millions and mass deportations, politicization of every level of government, and a fascist authoritarian state. MAGA = Make Americans Get Armbands

So some basic questions:

• Who here thinks that lies in the service of Donald Trump are OK?
• Who here believes that Donald Trump should be above the law?
• Who here wishes Trump's Fake Electors plan to steal the election had worked?
• Who here wishes the Capitol rioters had stopped Pence from naming Biden?
• Who here wishes the Capitol rioters had forced Pence to name Trump?
• Who here wants to gut the Constitution and make Trump dictator as he demands?
• Who here wants fascism for America, with an "iron fist" from the top down?
• Who here wants state legislatures to dump all votes and choose the president?
• Who here is ok with overthrowing our democracy if that will "own the libs"?
• Who here truly believes Trump's Election Steal Big Lie?

• Who here does not realize that if he gets back in office... it's permanent?

Nobody? Then why still support this man and his unending, pathological lying; insurrection; sedition; and outright assault on our system? Why attack those who - at great risk to themselves - are investigating these things, enforcing the law, and protecting the Constitution?

...nonsense snipped....
Let's just start with the "fake elector" nonsense. These were a slate of alternate electors, only to be used if the court challenges succeeded. The idea they could possibly cast ballots before that happened is something only a person criminally gullible would fall for.

The true crime here came in 2017, when Hillary Clinton and her media allies ran a "faithless elector" scheme. They actually convinced 10 electors to go to DC and cast their ballots not for who actually won their state, but for her. Had she swayed a few more electors, she actually would have overthrown the election. Where were your fake tears then?
