    What's the story

Naomi Osaka reached the second round of 2024 French Open after surviving a scare against Lucia Bronzetti on Sunday. The Japanese star won the clash 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. She sealed the first set in just 27 minutes. Bronzetti rallied back in the second set. Osaka went 4-0 up in the third set but Bronzetti fought back and tested the former, who prevailed thereafter.

    Numbers

58-17 win-loss record at Grand Slams

Osaka picked up her 58th win across Grand Slams. She owns a 58-17 win-loss record. Her record at Roland Garros reads 8-5. She has reached the second round for the fifth time here. Osaka is a four-time Grand Slam champion. She won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021. She also won the US Open twice (2018 and 2020).

    13-9 win-loss record in 2024 season

Osaka started the WTA Tour with a second-round exit in Brisbane. She was ousted in the first round at Australian Open. Osaka also suffered an early exit at the Abu Dhabi Open. In Qatar, she reached the quarter-finals before losing in R32 at Indian Wells and Miami respectively. She was ousted early at Open de Rouen and Madrid Open. In Rome, she reached R16.

    Happenings

A look at the match summary

It was an easy start for Osaka, who dominated the first set in style. She looked confident and didn't allow her opponent much room. However, credit should go to Bronzetti as she held on to her serves and finally broke Osaka to win 6-4. The deciding set saw Osaka get a double break as she dominated. However, Bronzetti didn't surrender and showed immense character.

    Bronzetti's record at Slams
