Person dead after exchanging gunfire with Wilson police

A person is dead after exchanging gunfire with police officers, according to the Wilson Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Hood Street around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday in response to a report of shots fired.

Police say that, upon arrival, the officers encountered a suspect who posed a threat. Officers exchanged gunfire with the person, and the person is now dead.

No one else was injured.

Per agency protocol, the NC State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
