A former southern Indiana auditor has been arrested after allegedly taking thousands of dollars from the county.According to Indiana State Police, the investigation started in April when the Indiana State Board of Accounts discovered possible misconduct by former Jackson County Auditor Staci Eglen.Detectives say during the investigation, they determined Eglen altered two invoices then submitted the altered invoices to the Jackson County Treasurer’s Office for reimbursement and deposited the checks into her personal bank accounts. According to detectives, Elgen also received at least two checks from the Treasurer’s Office that were issued to her as an employee of the Hamilton Township Trustee’s Office. She allegedly deposited those checks into her bank account as well for personal purchases.ISP says Eglen allegedly took more than $18,000 from the county.Eglen resigned from her position as auditor when the investigation began, says ISP.She was arrested on Friday without incident and taken to the Jackson County Jail.Eglen is charged with fraud, theft and official misconduct.
