CHESHIRE – Rose (D’Angelo) Schaefer, 97, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the widow of Francis G. Schaefer.
Rose was born on July 3, 2026 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Michael and Delma (Calo) D’Angelo. After earning her nursing degree from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, she went on to open Grove Manor Nursing Home in 1956, which she ran for 48 years before she retired.
She was a member of the Country Club of Waterbury for 45 years. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, reading, and playing bridge.
Rose is survived by her grandson, Ryan Aliciene and his wife Karen, of Cheshire; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rose Aliciene and Owen Ryan Aliciene; her son-in-law Ronald Aliciene of Florida.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Aliciene; her brothers, Ralph, Maurice and Michael D’Angelo; and her sister, Mary D’Angelo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Mary Our Queen Church-St. Luke Parish, 248 Savage St., Plantsville. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
