Police have confirmed that two people – a 17-year-old boy and a man in his 60s – have died in separate road traffic collisions in Northern Ireland.

In the latest incident, teenager Jack Morrow died at the scene when his car was involved in a one-vehicle crash on the Banbridge Road in Rathfriland in the early hours of Saturday.

Another teen has also been seriously injured.

PSNI Inspector Cherith Adair, from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Shortly before 2:30am, it was reported that a red VW Golf was involved in the incident.

“Sadly, Jack, who was from the Rathfriland area, passed away at the scene.

“A 19-year-old man who was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries which are described as serious.”

The Banbridge Road was closed for a time following the crash, but has since reopened.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision, or who has any dash cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 149 25/05/24,” Inspector Adair said.

It comes after a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Newry Road, near Poyntzpass, in Co Armagh on Friday evening.

A man in his 60s died at the scene, which remains cordoned off.

Inspector Adair said: “Officers received and responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles, shortly after 6.30pm.

“Colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

“Sadly, the driver of grey coloured Peugeot 207 died at the scene due to his injuries.

“There are no reports of any other serious injuries at this time.”

The Newry Road remains closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route for their journeys.
