America’s Favorite Snacks Unveiled: Oreo Tops the List

A recent study has identified the most popular food and snack brands, highlighting top names such as Oreo, Kit Kat, and Snickers.

Conducted by promotions and loyalty experts Snipp Interactive, the study utilized YouGov data to determine the top food and snack brands in the US. They then analyzed the number of Instagram hashtags for each brand to gauge customer loyalty and engagement.

  1. Oreo

Oreo emerged as the most popular food brand on Instagram, with an impressive 9,776,758 hashtags—six million more than any other brand. With a substantial Instagram following of 3.6 million, Oreo benefits from extensive user-generated content, showcasing creations like Oreo milkshakes and cakes. According to research, 71.26 million Americans consumed Nabisco Oreo (Regular) in 2020, solidifying its status as a favorite cookie in the US. Additionally, YouGov data shows that 98% of Americans recognize the brand, and 76% have a positive opinion of it.

  1. Kit Kat

Kit Kat ranks as the second most popular food brand with 3,783,190 Instagram hashtags. Known for its crispy wafers coated in milk chocolate, Kit Kat is a favorite on Instagram, featuring in content such as cakes, milkshakes, and ice cream. Research indicates that 1,192 million Kit Kat bars are sold annually in the US. According to YouGov, Kit Kat has a popularity score of 79%, with 98% of respondents familiar with the brand.

  1. Snickers

Snickers holds third place with 1,756,558 Instagram hashtags. The brand enjoys a wealth of user-generated content, with creations ranging from cakes and cookies to healthier snacks like Snickers protein bites. YouGov data reveals that 77% of people have a favorable opinion of Snickers.

  1. Doritos

Doritos is fourth with 1,066,146 Instagram hashtags. As the most popular chip brand in the US, Doritos surpasses competitors like Pringles and Lay’s. Consumers frequently share their favorite flavors and new finds on Instagram, contributing to Doritos’ 1 million followers.

  1. Hershey

Hershey ranks fifth with 1,060,904 Instagram hashtags. YouGov data shows that 98% of people recognize the brand, and 77% have a positive opinion. Instagram users share a variety of Hershey treats and homemade desserts, such as cakes, cookies, and donuts.

  1. Ben & Jerry’s

Ben & Jerry’s secures the sixth spot with 1,020,212 Instagram hashtags. Known for its decadent ice cream flavors, Ben & Jerry’s is the most popular ice cream brand in the US, with 1.5 million Instagram followers. Data indicates that 97% of people have heard of the brand.

  1. Reese’s

Reese’s ranks seventh with 969,059 Instagram hashtags. Famous for its peanut butter and chocolate combination, Reese’s is a beloved candy brand in the US, with fans sharing recipes for cookies, cakes, and brownies on Instagram.

  1. Pringles

Pringles claims the eighth spot with 904,509 Instagram hashtags. The brand’s iconic potato chips have a dedicated fan base that loves to share their favorite flavors.

  1. Lay’s

Lay’s ranks ninth with 795,842 Instagram hashtags. Users frequently tag the brand in content featuring both classic and adventurous flavors.

  1. Cheetos

Cheetos rounds out the top ten with 784,364 Instagram hashtags. Consumers remain loyal, sharing videos and pictures of their Cheetos snacks on Instagram.
