It's now well over seven years since Nintendo launched the Switch and with the console now well into its eighth year — and with official confirmation that a new hardware announcement is coming soon(ish) — we thought it was a great time to look back over the generation and collect some stats about how you, our lovely readers, use the system in 2024 and if it's changed at all since 2017.
Enter the Nintendo Switch Summer Survey 2024. We're planning to send out a series of Switch-related questions in survey form in the next week or so, the results of which we'll share in an article at a later date. All the questions will be optional and the results totally anonymous — it should give us all a fascinating picture of how we're using our Switches all these years after launch.
We're in the middle of assembling the questions. We've got the standard How many Switches do you own?, Do you ever pre-order games?, Do NL's reviews and recommendations influence your purchase decisions?, and all that game, but we want to hear questions YOU would like the answers to.
If you've got a question you'd like to see posed to Nintendo Life's entire readership in survey form, head down to the comments on this post and let us know. We'll read each and every one and select the best of them to add to our Switch survey before we send it live.
Apologies to our lovely readers in the Southern Hemisphere — but you know we love a little alliteration and 'Switch Summer Survey' just rolls off the tongue so well! What's that? It's not technically summer in the Northern Hemisphere either? Well, it will be when we post the results.
Any questions? You know what to do...

Some questions:
How do you buy games: all digital, all physical, physical unless not an option, etc.
What is your primary non-joycon controller (like, playing docked)
Why aren't you using DekuDeals for your game wishlist?
I'd be curious to see everyone's most played game and how long.
Edit: top 10 is also good 😉
I think a good one could be 'what is your favourite series you've been introduced to on Switch?' as between remakes/remasters, collections and NSO, the Switch has been a breeding ground for retro/3rd-Party content for pretty much its entire life. I've been introduced to countless different series thanks to the Switch (Ace Attorney, Splatoon, Castlevania, etc.) and I imagine tons of others are the same.
It would be interesting to see whether people play multiplayer or single player games more. Also maybe how many switch friends you have.
What size SD card do you use?
Opinion on My Nintendo?
What Nintendo franchise not yet represented by the Switch do you most want to see return.
Same Q 3rd party.
Which Nintendo game or series do you think best represents or is the poster child for the Switch
(For example I would say Pokémon for Gameboy, Mario Bros for Nes, Zelda for N64. I hope this makes sense)
Would you really use streaming apps like Netlfix and Disney+ if they were available?
Snog Marry Kill, Link Zelda and Ganondorf?
You're not really fussed about an English Mother 3 right?
Do you take your Switch to parties and the pub?
What colour Joy Cons do you want that they haven't released?
Do you play your Switch on the toilet?
I think some good questions would be:
*What determines for you a game or genre that do or don't buy on Switch?
*How often do you use the NSO Classic Game apps?
*What determines if you buy physical or not?
*Do you always play a wide variety of games? Or just a select few?
*Have you ever wanted to sell your Switch? Why or Why Not?
*Opinions on limited physical game producers? (LGR, Super Rare Games, Strictly Limited, Premium Edition Games)
And lastly,
*Are still happy and enjoying your Switch 7 years in? Or have you stopped playing it waiting to the next system?
When you primarily played on consoles before the Switch arrived, did you switch to become a handheld gamer or vice versa?
How many games do you play in one sitting?
What is your most-played game? And how many hours do you have in it?
How long do you usually play per sitting? Per day? Per week?
1-10?
11-20?
21-30?
31+?
How many games have you 100% ???
Do you play any local multiplayer? If so:
(asking as a lonely person 🥺)
Howzit holding up?
-How many of your joycons are drifting?
-Is there a gap in the top of your switch caused by battery bulging?
-Are there cracks in the plastic from getting too hot?
-Have you ever had to send it in to Nintendo for repairs?
-Have you modded your system in any way?
I'd be very interested in taking this survey just to see where this particular community is at as we approach thr post-mortem stages.
How many first-party Nintendo games do you own on Switch? How many third-party games? How many indie games?
(It might be a bit difficult handling these questions, as there's kind of overlap - Nintendo's published third-party games on Switch, though they do own the IP of the unique indie games they published, and some people are bound to mix up third-party and indie, especially because the lines there can blur too. I still think it'd be interesting to see if people lean more in one direction over any others.)
Doesn't look like anyone's suggested "How many games have you finished?" yet, either
I’d be interested in knowing stats around retro games from 80s and 90s Vs modern releases.
There’s some clear division with the NSO offerings and Hamsters Arcade Archives and Neo Geo games.
Maybe highlighting that specific era where there’s 2D pixel art, 8-bit / 16-bit, only because there’s a starker contrast between those and modern games.
Early 3D PC / PS 1 games are much more technically advanced, to be closer to modern games.
Could look at people who played the originals at the time and those who are new to them on the Switch.
