A man has been arrested in connection to Thursday's shooting on Outer Loop and a fight on Interstate-65.
LMPD arrested 45-year-old Jason Calhoun Thursday and charged him with attempted murder, first-degree strangulation, first-degree robbery and criminal mischief.
Police say they responded to the call of a crash around 7:45 a.m. Thursday on Outer Loop near Preston Highway.
That's when police say they found Calhoun inside a wrecked car in a ditch. He told police that he had been shot multiple times.
From there, investigators found another man nearby on I-65 who reported a possible carjacking.
To summarize what happened, it started with LMPD receiving a call of a possible carjacking on I-65 North.
According to an arrest slip, a victim said his vehicle had broken down at the I-65 North Outer Loop exit.
The victim said he left his broken vehicle and came back in another car.
While the victim was in the working car, police say Calhoun approached the victim and demanded the car.
The victim then told Calhoun he had a gun in-between his front car seat.
Police say Calhoun then reached for the victim's gun, telling the victim to give it to him.
The victim said he was then able to grab his gun after which Calhoun began kicking and hitting him.
The victim told police Calhoun then began grabbing at his eye, saying "give me your eyeball."
The victim said Calhoun hooked his finger and stuck it into his eye, trying to remove his eyeball.
Calhoun also began reaching again for the gun saying he would "kill him" before putting him into a headlock, choking him, the victim said.
The victim then fired multiple shots at Calhoun until he let go of him.
He said he did so because he felt like he would die if Calhoun continued choking him.
The victim got out of the car after firing the shots, and Calhoun jumped into the car, reversed it and took off down the Outer Loop exit.
Calhoun was then hit by a semitruck and continued on to the area of the Outer Loop and Preston Highway.
That's where Calhoun was when police found him. They took him to the hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say he is expected to survive.
The victim was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of facial injuries, corneal abrasions and a hoarse voice.
Calhoun will be arraigned on Friday morning.
