WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. EARTH-FRIENDLY CAMPING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 11am. Drop in to learn tips and tricks to stay ethical in the outdoors! RIVERKEEP SWEEP: Volunteers of all ages are invited to the 13th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River on May 5, from 10am-2pm. Join us in preparing the trails, grounds, gardens, and banks of Hudson Crossing Park for summer, and make our waterways cleaner and healthier along the way. There will be projects for all ages, families, students in need of community service hours, and anyone who wants to help. Learn about their exciting lives, what they like to eat, and what they use for shell-ter at the Nature Center. This program is for all ages. PIE AND QUICHE SALE: The Glenville Hills Garden Club of Saratoga County will hold its annual pie and quiche sale from 9 am to 1 pm on Memorial Day in the Galway Village Park. Proceeds will fund the garden club projects, including community beautification and the sponsorship of students at environmental camps.
MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will co-host a Memorial Day Commemoration ceremony on Monday, May 27th, at 10 AM at the War Memorial in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. Open to the public. Mayor Stafford and other invited guest speakers will attend.
HISTORICAL PRESENTATION: A free program at Grant Cottage, 2-3:30pm. Lt. Col. Clarence W. Dart, a famous Saratoga Springs member of the Tuskegee Airmen and decorated WWII fighter pilot, was shot down twice in his 95 missions, earning two Purple Hearts. This program is presented by his son Warren Dart. No registration needed to attend.

BEAVER WALK: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Did you know that MLSP is home to a thriving population of North America’s largest rodent? We will walk along the Wetlands Walk and Mud Pond trails where we can view our beaver’s dam and lodges while we learn all about how they live, love, and learn. This program is for people of all ages, it’s an easy-moderate hike of about 2.5 miles. Pay $1 per child and $5 per adult (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. BUTTERFLY WALK: Wilton Wildlife is offering free walks on Wednesdays, starting on May 29 and continuing through July 31. The walks will take place weekly at 1:30 pm and leave from the parking area at Old Gick Farm on Route 50, which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. PRESERVATION LAW PRESENTATION: On May 29 at 5:30pm, the City of Saratoga Springs in partnership with the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation will present a free in-person program, “Defensible Decisions” with Will Cook at the Spring Street Gallery, 110 Spring Street, Saratoga Springs. Will Cook is a nationally recognized lawyer and scholar with a successful record for protecting National Historic Landmarks, significant landscapes, historic viewsheds, and traditional cultural properties. His firm, Cultural Heritage Partners, focuses on balancing historic preservation with economic development so that historic preservation law is more efficient, effective, and predictable. Cook will speak about how local preservation law is one of the best tools for protecting and preserving historic buildings, sites, and streetscapes. In addition, he will offer suggestions on how to apply preservation ordinances consistent with their intended purpose so that these ordinances are respected, effective, and efficient. PORCUPINE HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 1pm. The park educator will be leading this moderate hike up to a lesser known trail in the park and showing you some areas that the porcupines like to hang out. Porcupines are cool creatures who love to take naps and we will be searching high and low to spot a porkie having a sunny naps. This program is $5 for adults and $1 for children, spots are limited. AARP SAFE DRIVER COURSE: 10:30am to 5pm at the Greenwich Free Library. The public is invited to learn research-based safety strategies to help keep you safe while on the road. After taking the course, individuals may be eligible for a multi-year discount on their car insurance.

PAINT ON SLATE: On May 31, the Slate Valley Museum will welcome instructor Darcie Parrott back for a paint on slate workshop from 7-9pm. Painters will use a slate tile sourced directly from the Slate Valley as the canvas for their creation. They’ll paint a scene of a slate bridge over a river with step-by-steps guidance from Parrott, a local art teacher. No painting experience is required. This event is alcohol-free. Families with older kids (ages 12+) are welcome to attend. Pre-registration for the workshop is required. Tickets are $40 per person and include all art materials, beverages (i.e. water, soda, etc.), and snacks. Space is limited. POLLINATOR PALOOZA: Sustainable Saratoga is hosting Pollinator Palooza, a native plant sale and pollinator education event, on Saturday, June 1 from 10am-3pm at 390 Wilton-Gansevoort Rd, Gansevoort. Native pollinators (bees, butterflies, etc.) are in drastic decline due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. Planting native plants provides essential food and habitat for native pollinators. It is often challenging to find native plants, but at Pollinator Palooza, you can shop our selection of over 35 native plant species. Please Note, cash or check preferred. Make a day of it! Learn how your garden, no matter how small, can help pollinators. Pollinator Palooza features information about sustainable gardening, the importance of native species, and general plant and pollinator educational resources, including free soil pH testing. We will have fun kids’ activities, raffles (gift certificates, books, plants, and more), entertainment, and delicious food from Coach’s Corner Food Truck and Sustainable Eats Food Truck.

WILDLIFE FESTIVAL: Wilton Wildlife will be hosting its Annual Wildlife Festival at the Historic Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton from 11am to 3pm. The free event will feature Karner blue butterfly information, lupine planting, food trucks, live animals, nature crafts, face painting, pond exploration, and hands-on fun. The event is timed to enjoy the beauty of the first brood of Karner blue butterflies and the blooming wild blue lupine. Activities will take place throughout Camp Saratoga to encourage people to explore the wonderful trail system, since the Wildlife Festival is a registered National Trails Day event. During the festival, native raptors will be presented by the Trish Marki of Silent Wings, sponsored by Ballston Spa National Bank. There will be live turtles at the turtle discovery table. At noon there will be an award ceremony for the winners of the Annual Earth Day Essay Contest. Entries were received from schools from all over the region and even beyond New York State! At the ceremony, the contest winners from each of the categories will receive their $50 cash prize. There will be lupine planting and a Karner blue butterfly information table to help visitors learn about the Saratoga Sand Plains Habitat Restoration area. Educators from Wilton Wildlife will share information about the efforts that New York State DEC and The Nature Conservancy have made in improving and increasing the habitat for this endangered species. Beginning at 11:00 am there will be numerous craft activities taking place in locations around Camp Saratoga. These will include clay medallions, fish printing, and watercolor painting. At the pond, volunteers will be on hand with dip nets to help people discover the animals that live there. The Donald A. Collins Memorial Fire Observer’s Cabin will be open along with the Historic Cornell Hill Fire Tower for visitors to get a unique view. Many other local organizations will have tables at the festival, including parks and nonprofits. This year food will be available from Big-n-Cheesy and Rolling in Gravy food trucks and Wilton Wildlife volunteers will be selling homemade goods through a bake sale. The Wildlife Festival will take place rain or shine with many of the activities moving under cover of Camp Saratoga’s many pavilions, the dining hall and the Winter Lodge in case of rainy weather. We encourage people to carpool, bike, blade, walk, or share rides with others since parking is limited. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. SUNSET YOGA: The Town of Greenfield Recreation Department is adding exercise classes for its residents. The town is sponsoring outdoor “Sunset Yoga” at its Middle Grove Park, 428 Middle Grove Rd. Sunset Yoga is open to adults and costs $10 per person. Participants should dress warm, bring a blanket and a yoga mat. The program will be from 7-8 pm on May 21, June 6, June 13, June 20, and June 27.

CRAFT FAIR: 10am to 3pm at Brookside Museum. The Saratoga County History Center is thrilled to announce a county-wide craft fair! Guests will be able to shop a wide variety of locally handcrafted collectibles, antiques, and farm products. No mass-produced or commercially-made items will be permitted. This is a terrific opportunity for New Yorkers to sample and appreciate the best of upstate artisans, farmers, and culinarians. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held rain or shine.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROGRAM: Volunteers from the Historical Society of Moreau and South Glens Falls will present a program at Parks Bentley Place (53 Ferry Boulevard, South Glens Falls) at 1pm titled “Practical But Beautiful”. There will be explanations and examples of
necessary items to early life in our area made beautiful by adding embroidery, stenciling, braiding, etc.

BUTTERFLY WALK: Wilton Wildlife is offering free walks on Wednesdays, starting on May 29 and continuing through July 31. The walks will take place weekly at 1:30 pm and leave from the parking area at Old Gick Farm on Route 50, which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. The walks will not take place if there is rain. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. The doors open at 4:30 pm, the kitchen window (which is staffed by the Catholic Daughters) opens at 5:30 pm, games go on sale at 6 pm., and the first game starts at 7 pm. SUNSET YOGA: The Town of Greenfield Recreation Department is adding exercise classes for its residents. The town is sponsoring outdoor “Sunset Yoga” at its Middle Grove Park, 428 Middle Grove Rd. Sunset Yoga is open to adults and costs $10 per person. Participants should dress warm, bring a blanket and a yoga mat. The program will be from 7-8 pm on May 21, June 6, June 13, June 20, and June 27.
