    What's the story

The 2024 IPL season is in its final stages with two matches to go. Kolkata Knight Riders await the winner of the Qualifier 2 set to be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals. And Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings will have to wait for claiming their maiden IPL title. Here are the sides with most IPL match-losses (excluding Super-Over results).

    DC

    Delhi Capitals: 134 defeats

Delhi Capitals have the most defeats for a side in IPL history. The Capitals have lost 134 of their 252 matches so far, with four matches ending with a Super Over (NR: 2). The Capitals have won 112 matches in the tournament as of now. As mentioned, DC are yet to win their maiden IPL title, having reached the finals once (2020).

    PBKS

    Punjab Kings: 133 defeats

Punjab Kings are the only other side to have lost more than 130 games in the IPL. They have 133 defeats in 246 IPL games. Like the Capitals, PBKS have been involved in four Super-Over encounters. Notably, PBKS and Mumbai Indians played out a historic double Super-Over match in IPL 2020. PBKS have also been the runners-up once (2014).

    RCB

    Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 128 defeats

Royal Challengers Bengaluru occupy the third spot with 128 defeats in the IPL. They have featured in 256 IPL matches, with three of them ending with a Super Over (NR: 4). Notably, RCB recorded the lowest-ever team total (49) in IPL 2017. RCB, who eye their maiden IPL trophy, finished as the runners-up of the 2009, 2011, and 2016 editions.

    KKR

    Kolkata Knight Riders: 117 defeats

Kolkata Knight Riders have lost 117 matches in 251 IPL matches as of now. They have also played out four Super-Over matches (NR: 1). KKR are one of only three sides to have won multiple IPL titles, with MI and Chennai Super Kings being the others. KKR won two titles in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Besides, they were the runners-up in 2021.
