Banning baseball advances to City Section Division I championship game at Dodger Stadium

High school notes: Banning baseball will play North Hollywood in Saturday's Division I championship game; dates set for all-star baseball and softball games; updates on boys tennis individual playoffs

The Banning baseball team will play for its first L.A. City Section championship since 1997.

The Pilots, the the No. 7 seed in Division I playoffs, defeated South East 5-0 in the semifinals Wednesday at Stengel Field. Robert Guerrero, who led the football team to the Division I championship, pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts,

Banning (18-13) will face No. 8 seed North Hollywood (19-12) at Dodger Stadium Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Pilots recorded playoff wins over San Fernando 5-4 and Verdugo Hills 4-1 to advance to the semifinals.

North Hollywood finished third in the East Valley League.

South Bay All-Star baseball, softball games returning

The South Bay Athletic Club’s All-Star High School baseball and softball games will take place the first week in June.

The baseball game is June 3 at Redondo High. Batting practice will begin at 4:45 p.m. and the game, featuring South Bay seniors, will start at 6:30 p.m.

The softball game will be played June 5 at Torrance High. Batting practice starts at 4:45 p.m. and the game at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for each game are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students with a school ID and will be available for purchase at the game (cash only).

South Bay golfers participate in CIF SoCal Championships

Palos Verdes’ Piers Pellier shot a 2-over 76 and El Segundo’s Lukas da Silva finished with a 3-over 77 at Wednesday’s CIF/SCGA SoCal Championships at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills.

Pellier shot a 38 on both the front and back nines. Da Silva was even on the front nine, but shot 3-over on the back.

CIF Individual tennis playoffs update

Palos Verdes’ Will Lokier advanced to the CIF-SS individual quarterfinals, but lost to Tyler Lee of Beckman, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, Wednesday.

Lokier’s teammate, Andrew Nishiguchi, lost in the second round to JSerra’s Riley Anson, 6-2, 6-4.

Chadwick’s Zach Chen lost in the first round.

In doubles, Peninsula’s Colin Bringas and Eddie Feuer and Palos Verdes’ Keo Brady and Nick Hung lost in the quarterfinals.

South Torrance’s Kaito Henderson and Aiden Rodgers lost in the first round.
