Man shot, killed in front of Durham tobacco shop
Police are searching for a shooter after a man was killed Tuesday night in Durham.
The Durham Police Department said the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Guess Road.
Police said they found a man shot in the parking lot outside a tobacco shop just north of downtown. He died at the scene.
Police believe the man was shot in the parking lot, and there were more than 20 evidence markers placed at the scene.
Broadcastify radio traffic indicates what happened when police arrived:
"PD to EMS. We're going to be by the Walltown Tobacco. Got a late 20-year-old male gunshot wound to the head. Loose pulse about a minute ago. Still doing CPR."
The Durham Police Department's most recent shooting data from Saturday shows fewer people have been murdered in Durham in 2024, but more people have been shot. At least 88 people have been shot so far this year, compared to 70 shot in mid-May last year. At least 16 people have been killed by gunfire.
Durham police did not released the name of the victim or any arrests.
The investigation is ongoing.
