Hotelschool The Hague (HTH) and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) have unveiled a new partnership aimed at fostering sustainable practices and innovation in global tourism. This collaboration will extend the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge (SHC) to the Caribbean, enhancing its global footprint.
SHC is renowned for encouraging students to devise creative solutions to sustainability issues in the hospitality industry. By introducing the competition to the Caribbean, it taps into the region’s diverse cultural perspectives, enriching the contest and stimulating fresh, innovative ideas.
This partnership intends to establish an inclusive forum where students from around the world can share their proposals and engage in the sustainable tourism conversation. Combining SHC’s extensive network with CTO’s efforts to promote the Caribbean as a top travel destination and leader in sustainable tourism, this initiative offers Caribbean students an opportunity to showcase their tourism prowess on an international stage.
The collaboration between HTH/SHC and CTO highlights their mutual commitment to promoting innovation and sustainability in the hospitality sector, aiming to equip future leaders to drive meaningful change and establish a lasting sustainable legacy.
“We are delighted to witness the expansion of the Sustainable Hospitality Challenge into the Caribbean region,” says Paul Griep, Director of Alumni & Industry Relations at Hotelschool The Hague and Founder of SHC.
“Personally, I am thrilled by SHC’s extension into such a culturally rich and diverse region. At SHC, we firmly believe that the best innovations can originate from anyone, anywhere. We aim to offer every student worldwide the opportunity to share their ideas. With its abundance of tourism knowledge, the Caribbean region provides an ideal environment for nurturing innovative solutions. We eagerly anticipate the contributions that students from the Caribbean will bring to the table,” he continued.
“Partnering on such an initiative marks a significant stride for CTO, amplifying our ongoing commitment to fostering the next generation of Caribbean tourism leaders,” said Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO’s Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer. “This collaboration not only reinforces our dedication to engaging future leaders in tourism-related activities but also underscores our alignment with global and regional sustainability initiatives,” she continued.
The leader of the CTO expressed that this initiative is set to accelerate the creation of innovative, resilient, equitable, and sustainable tourism offerings that have both local and global impact.
This venture builds on CTO’s ongoing youth engagement programs, including the CTO Student Colloquium for college students and the CTO Regional Youth Congress for high school students aged 14 to 17.
Significantly, this year marks the first participation of a Caribbean team in the SHC, with students from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus competing in the semifinals in Miami this week.
