Stating that all government and government-aided schools in the state have been given the option to hold full-day classes, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said Akshay Patra will be roped in to provide lunch at such schools that commence full-day classes.
“All government and government-aided schools have been given the option to hold full-day classes. Those who are interested can go ahead with it. We will keep it optional in the beginning and not make it compulsory. We will provide lunch through Akshay Patra,” Sawant told The Navhind Times.
When asked if the meals would be provided through Akshay Patra from the beginning of the upcoming academic year, he said, “Actually it is not possible to provide meals from June. So, we will make provision to provide the meals locally.
But in future, we will provide meals through Akshay Patra.”
As part of the procedure, schools interested in starting full-day classes must inform the education department about the same.
Education Secretary Prasad Lolayekar said a few government-run schools have shown willingness to start full-day classes from the upcoming academic year.
“They have told us that they want to start full-day school. Also, 2-3 government schools are keen on having full-day classes,” he said.
