Soroco vaulter medals at state championships as local athletes earn a number of top-10 finishes

Routt County high schools accounted for 10 top-10 finishes at the Colorado State Track and Field Championships over the weekend at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. 

The highest placement of the championships came from Soroco senior Larhae Whaley, who took home the bronze medal in pole vault on a 10 foot, 4 inch vault, the best of her career. Sophomore Alayna Edwards was not far behind, placing eighth in pole vault at a 8-10.

Whaley and Edwards also teamed up over the weekend in the girls 2A 4×100 meter relay with Alyssa Martindale and Molly Smith. The team managed a ninth-place finish at 52.75 seconds.



The Hayden Tigers followed suit and put up quality results with senior Dakota Munden throwing her discus 107-4 to take ninth in the 2A girls competition. Also, senior Jenna Kleckler flew 15-3 in the long jump for 10th.

The top performance of the weekend for Steamboat came from junior Austin Prost, who ran the boys 4A 300-meter hurdles in 39.48 seconds for fifth. Junior Brandon Kolb also had a solid showing with eighth place in triple jump at 44-1 and 15th in high jump at 5-11. Luka Russell put Steamboat on the map in the 100-meter and 200-meter wheelchair race where he placed ninth and 13th, respectively.
