Montgomery County police veteran Marc Yamada nominated as police chief

The assistant chief has served in the county for 35 years and would become the first Japanese American to serve as the county’s police chief if confirmed.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said Tuesday he will nominate as his new police chief Marc Yamada, a longtime veteran of the county police force.

Elrich is expected to make a formal announcement at a Wednesday news conference.

“Assistant Chief Yamada has 35 years of exemplary experience with the Montgomery County Police Department,” Elrich’s office said in a statement Tuesday, citing his deep commitment to public safety.
