The North Davidson girls soccer team has advanced to the fourth round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A state playoffs.

(2) North Davidson defeated (7) A.C. Reynolds 2-1 after scoring two unanswered goals and surviving several chances from the Rockets in the second half.

In the sixth minute, A.C. Reynolds struck first. A free kick by Rell Bound bounced off the North Davidson keeper and Madeline Taylor was in the right spot for the rebound. She scored the goal to give A.C. Reynolds a 1-0 lead.

Bound and the Rockets had a strong start to the game. A few minutes later, she nearly scored off another free kick. A.C. Reynolds earned five free kicks and two corners in the first 15 minutes of the game.

North Davidson's defense held though and the Black Knights got the equalizer in the 33rd minute. Chelsea Prescott's shot hit the crossbar, but Kyndall Moore was able to track down the loose ball and score.

The two teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.

It did not take long for North Davidson to take its first lead of the game in the second half. In the 45th minute, Reese Sullivan drilled a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal, giving the Black Knights a 2-1 lead.

A.C. Reynolds had plenty of opportunities in the last 35 minutes of the game. Bound hit a free kick off the crossbar two minutes after North Davidson took the lead. In the 50th minute, an indirect free kick was fired on goal, but Kelsey Wrenn made one of her many big saves.

In the final minutes, the Rockets continued to attack. With just over five minutes left, the Rockets had three opportunities inside the box, but North Davidson was able to keep it out each time. Wrenn made several stops, including a free kick in the 76th minute that was on line.

Time ran out on A.C. Reynolds though, and North Davidson was able to advance with the one-goal win.

North Davidson will host (6) Lake Norman Charter in the fourth round of the playoffs on Thursday. Lake Norman Charter defeated (3) West Henderson 2-1 on Monday night.
