Morgan City High stadium work begins Tuesday; facility will be closed to public
Construction for renovations to the Morgan City High School Stadium and Track will begin on Tuesday morning.
The facility will be closed and locked for the duration of the project, and there will be no public access due to safety concerns, according to the firm of architect Carl Blum
Work includes Life Safety Code improvements including new railings and fencing for the stadium, cleaning, painting and waterproofing, and replacement of the home side stadium lighting with
new poles and LED fixtures.
The existing track surface will be removed and replaced with a new urethane material providing a state-of-the-art track surface. New field event areas for high jump, the long and triple jump and pole vault will be installed and topped with the same urethane surface.
Construction completion is scheduled prior to the start of the 2024 football season.
The MCHS stadium was constructed in the late 1950s.
The project is funded from District 3 Maintenance Funds and was designed by the Blum firm. The contractor is Geosurfaces Inc. The St. Mary School Board approved the contract award for $1,078,000 contract at its April 11 meeting.
