Mandarin Oriental has announced plans for its first hotel in the Italian capital.

The 108-room Mandarin Oriental, Rome will be housed within ten 19th-century villas between Via Piemonte and Via Sallustiana, and within The Gardens of Sallust.

There will be six restaurants and bars including al fresco dining, a standalone dining concept in one of the villas, and the Mandarin Bar on the rooftop.

Other facilities will include indoor and outdoor pools, landscaped gardens, six treatments rooms, thermal rooms and a sundeck.

The property is scheduled to open in 2026, and will join Mandarin Oriental, Milan – which opened in 2015 – and Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como, which was a rebranding of the previous CastaDiva Resort and Spa. Properties are also under development Cortina and Cervo.

Commenting on the news Laurent Kleitman, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, said:

“Rome is home to many historical and architectural treasures and a destination of choice for luxury travellers.

“We will take the same meticulous approach in Rome as we have with our other historic properties, ensuring that we honour and respect local artisanal craftsmanship and Roman cultural heritage, while incorporating the finest luxury, contemporary comfort, sustainability standards and the legendary service for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned.

“We are delighted to be extending the Mandarin Oriental brand in Italy and look forward to working with our partners to create a truly unique landmark in the heart of the city.”
