The charms of desert boots, postboxes with no royal cypher, signs used to highlight potholes and alternate uses for pen nibs — what do these all have in common? They’re the subject of posts on the Dull Men’s Club on Facebook, an online group with 1.4 million members.
I happened upon it when it was suggested to me by the algorithm as something I might be interested in. It turns out I was. A group that flaunted its dullness seemed both quirky and quietly confident but also — and this was its main selling point — in an online world gone mad, something dull and soothing seemed like an antidote to all the brashness, self-promotion and naked aggression out there.
