Aspen School District, teachers union reach contract agreeement

The Aspen School District and Aspen Education Association reached an agreement in contract negotiations for the teacher union’s compensation and collective bargaining agreements.

The agreement includes an updated salary schedule with an average of 4-6% wage increases. It also includes compensation for work outside the contract day.

The union and the district renegotiated the collective bargaining agreement for three additional years until June 2027, which includes international teaching leave, protections for due process and just cause, academic freedom to protect teaching staff, policy integrations including displacement and transfers, and updates to leave including exemption leave and annual leave buy-back.

Employees will also receive an increased wellness benefit, continuation of the commuter benefit and staff bus, and relocation assistance as a result of the negotiations.

“ASD and AEA are confident that the renegotiated collective bargaining agreement will serve as a foundation for ongoing innovation and excellence within the school district,” a news release about the negotiations states. “By working together in partnership and solidarity, ASD and AEA can create a learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.”
