Arsenal fans were left perplexed after a fake rumour spread that West Ham had equalised against Manchester City.

After Arsenal bagged their own equaliser against Everton on Sunday, fans in the stands thought West Ham had scored a second goal against City after Phil Foden's early double.

Mohammed Kudus had reduced the deficit by one before half-time with a stunning overhead kick.

Moments after the news filtered through to north London, someone must have started a fake rumour that the Hammers had scored again.

Like wildfire, the fake news spread around the Emirates with fans celebrating the goal that would have seen them go a goal away from winning the Premier League.

But as fast as it went around the ground, the realisation hit that West Ham had not scored and City went in at half-time ahead.

Arsenal needed West Ham to either beat or draw to City at the Etihad Stadium and also beat Everton to win their first Premier League title in 20 years.

However, their hopes looked over before they even started as Foden scored a beauty in two minutes to give the reigning champions the lead.

The England international, who won the Player of the Year award this week, then netted his second of the day moments later to spark wild celebrations in the stands.
