Former Chelsea wonderkid Josh McEachran will be playing a final at Wembley, but not the one many tipped him to take part in.

Wanted by Real Madrid at one point, McEachran will instead be running out at the national stadium for the League One play-off final for Oxford United against Bolton - live on talkSPORT - rather than the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

He won't mind at all, though, having rejected the glamour of Madrid to try and make it work at boyhood club Chelsea before now playing for hometown team Oxford.

Having progressed through Chelsea's youth academy, the midfielder was tipped for stardom after breaking into the first team fold under Carlo Ancelotti at the age of 16, making his senior debut at 17 in September 2010.

McEachran had the world at his feet and had Manchester United as well as Real Madrid vying for his signature. "Real Madrid had the contract waiting for me and they wanted all my family to fly over," he told The Telegraph in 2017, explaining that he said no because he was a Chelsea fan and had ambitions of his own in London.

But then Jose Mourinho signed Cesc Fabregas in 2014 and it put the final nail in the coffin of his dream of playing for his boyhood club, however.
