Mumbai: Dust storm followed by heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Monday May 14, 2024 causing a big hoarding collapsing onto a petrol pump in Ghatkopar area of the metropolis.
As many as 8 people have died and 60 others were injured after the billboard collapsed onto the fuel pump, officials said.

Around 20-25 people are still trapped even as the recue team is at work.
The Maharashtra government has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family of those who have lost their lives.
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said the hoarding was illegal and was installed on Railways Land.
The BMC officials further said that the permissible size for hoarding is 40×40 whereas the size of the collapsed hoarding was 120 × 120.
The BMC said it will file a case against the Railways and the ad agency.
The Indian Railways in a quick response denied the claim that the land is of Railways.
The incident occurred around 04:30 pm Monday, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, at the Police Ground Petrol Pump situated on the Eastern Express Highway, Ghatkopar East.
Meanwhile, a huge rush of commuters is seen in the Mumbai local trains following the unseasoned rains as monsoon is still two weeks away.

Commuters said a number of trains are running late resulting in chaos at various railway stations.

The sizzling heat was followed by unseasoned heavy rains and storm in Malegaon, Satana and other parts of Maharashtra Sunday night.
Following the rains in Mumbai and other parts of the state an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna and Parbhani districts.
