Many people remember anxiously waiting on this – your driver’s license.

Some students are ready to take their drivers test on their 16th birthday. But due to backlogs for driver's education, some high school students in Wake County are being forced to wait.

Right now, driver’s ed enrollment can take up to five months in Wake County. But it should only take 8 to 12 weeks.

School leaders will talk about ways to reduce this backlog on Tuesday.

This isn’t the first time the school system has faced this issue. They were forced to make changes in 2022 when there was backlog due to COVID.

Now, the school system is looking to expand a contract with a driving school.

On Tuesday, school leaders will have a discussion, but there won’t be a vote yet.
