Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 1.68%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Monday.

Shares of Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 1.31 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(up 1.21 per cent), MRF Ltd.(up 1.01 per cent), Exide Industries Ltd.(up 0.79 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.53 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Tata Motors Ltd.(down 8.62 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(down 8.31 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 2.0 per cent), Apollo Tyres Ltd.(down 0.61 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 0.41 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 1.68 per cent down at 22462.65.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 48.85 points at 22104.05, while the BSE Sensex stood up 111.66 points at 72776.13.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 26 ended in the green, while 24 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Zomato, IDFC First Bank and NHPC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Smartlink Holdings, D-Link(India), ABB India, Hindustan Zinc and Kapston Facilities hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Filatex Fash, Medico Remedies, Morarjee Text, GSS Infotech and Brightcom Group hit their fresh 52-week lows.
