A Kentucky man's persistence pays off after scoring big with a $225,000 lottery win.
Richard Main was just one number away from the top prize on his lottery ticket.
According to the Kentucky Lottery, Main still walked home with more than $2,000 from that ticket.
Kentucky Lottery officials say two weeks later Main found himself holding another ticket he bought at the Kroger on Starlite Drive in Owensboro.
“I said, ‘I know it’s going to happen,’” Main said. “I got too close!”
That ticket matched the four white ball numbers winning Main the top prize of $225,000.
Main told lottery officials that he plays the lottery sporadically.
“I’ll get a feeling,” he said. “You can’t win if you don’t play. I’ve been kind of in shock.”
According to the Kentucky Lottery, the Davis County man said he does not have any immediate plans for his winnings but might take a vacation.
“I’m going to put it in the bank and let it ride out,” Main said.
Main made a trip to the lottery headquarters on Friday to pick up his winnings.
He received a check for $162,000 after taxes.
