Eurovision 2024 – live: Ireland’s Bambie Thug suggests they may not perform after missing dress rehearsal
Revelation arrives after Dutch contestant was disqualified from this year’s competition
Irish artist Bambie Thug has suggested they may not perform at tonight’s Eurovision Song Contest after missing their dress rehearsal.
The musician’s revelation arrived shortly after it was revealed Dutch artist Joost Klein has been expelled from the competition following a complaint made by a female member of the production crew.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organises the event, said Mr Klein, 26, had been booted out of the competition after launching an investigation on Friday.
Shortly after, Bambie Thug said they had raised a “situation”, which they had “felt needed urgent attention from the EBU”, adding: “The EBU have taken this matter seriously and we have been in a discussion about what action needs to be taken. This means I have missed my dress rehearsal.”
The contestant, considered one of this year’s favourites, added: “I am really sorry to the fans that have come to see me. I hope to see you on stage tonight.”
Ahead of the second semi-final on 9 May, thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets in Malmö, Sweden, where this year’s contest is being held, to protest against Israel’s participation.
Further protests are expected to take place after Israel qualified as one of the 26 countries competing in this year’s final.

They will compete in the grand final in Malmo, Sweden, on Saturday 11 May, where they are up against delegates from Croatia (Baby Lasagna), Ireland (Bambie Thug), Italy (Angelina Mango) and the UK (Olly Alexander).
