Free parent education home visits for caregivers of young children

The nonprofit Family Development Center in Steamboat Springs invites local families to take advantage of the free Newborn Network’s Parents as Teachers program.

Parents as Teachers is a free home visitation and parent education program available to any family across Routt County to help answer questions and ease concerns about a child’s development. Certified parent educators can visit a family’s home in Routt County up to once a month with a focus on parent-child interactions and enhancing a child’s development on all levels.

The free program includes four main components of one-on-one personal or home visits, group connections, health and developmental screenings for children, and a family resource network. Families are eligible to enroll any time from the start of their pregnancy until their child’s third birthday. Contact Newborn Network at newborn@familydevelopmentcenter.org or 970-879-7330.

More information about the offerings through the Family Development Center, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in April, can be found online at FamilyDevelopmentCenter.org. The center also oversees the Child Care Network and Discovery Learning Center.
