Tennenbaum: Keep Basalt’s Midland Avenue project going

Town of Basalt residents,

Please do not ignore the ballot you are getting in the mail this week. It has one question about the project in downtown Basalt, and I urge you to vote “No”.

The Midland Avenue Streetscape project is fully-funded by the bond approved by the voters in 2021 in addition to grants and town reserves and will be completed this year. If this ballot initiative passes, it could cost all tax payers in Basalt hundreds of thousands of dollars in change orders and legal fees, delay the completion by at least a year, and we will deal with ripped up roads and sidewalks for another winter.

If you live in Willits, you may not think this directly affects you, but it will. This is a project for the entire community and will be an amazing compliment to the new River Park and band shell.

Let’s keep moving Basalt forward and get this great pedestrian-friendly project completed this year.
