Green Level ends Ashley's run in boys lacrosse playoffs

Green Level will play in the eastern regional championship for the first time in school history. The Gators will face Cardinal Gibbons, a team Green Level beat 10-9 in overtime earlier in the season.

Green Level, the top seed in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A boys lacrosse state playoffs, advanced to the state semifinals on Friday night.

The Gators ended a playoff run by the 12-seed Ashley, claiming a 16-5 win on Friday night.

Green Level scored the first four goals of the game to set the tone. Brian Bracciante, Gus Maggio, Kelan Moore, and Jackson Spells scored in the first six minutes to give the Gators a 4-0 lead.

Spells' goal was his 200th career point for Green Level. Josh Smith also recorded his 300th face off win of the season, and Jacob Fedich posted his 100th career takeaway in the first quarter.

Anthony Blackburn scored off an assist from Cooper Wert with 3:23 left in the opening quarter to get the Screaming Eagles on the board, but Moore quickly responded with his second goal of the game to push the lead to 5-1.

Green Level led 6-2 after one quarter and cruised to its 16-5 win.

Maggio led the Gators in points with three goals and three assists, while Austin Hryn led the team in goals scored with four. Hryn also had an assist.
