Explore Shanghai Airport Group’s innovative measures improving services for international arrivals, enhancing the city’s visitor experience.

Shanghai Airport Group has unveiled a series of seven innovative measures designed to streamline and enhance the services available to international arrivals, thereby improving the overall visitor experience in the city.

  1. Simplified Internet Access through “Passport Identification Login”

A new system has been implemented for international travelers who lack local SIM cards, enabling them to quickly access airport Wi-Fi. By scanning their passport details at the login page, visitors can connect to the internet effortlessly.

  1. Immediate SIM Card Access via “On-arrival Card Swapping”

Travelers can now easily buy SIM cards and data plans at 14 designated spots within Pudong and Hongqiao international airports right after passing through customs. These points accept multiple forms of payment and are staffed to assist with any queries. Additionally, plans are underway to open mobile operator service centers at Pudong Airport’s terminals 1 and 2.

  1. Streamlined City Transportation with “One Card for Travel”

Service centers at both airports now provide Shanghai Urban Tourist Cards and transport cards, accepting international payments and facilitating easy travel across various modes of transport.

  1. Enhanced Payment Security with “Worry-free Card Swiping”

Recognized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, the airports have improved their ability to process payments from foreign bank cards and digital wallets like WeChat Pay, digital renminbi, and Alipay. Over 400 vendors across the airports provide clear signage of the payment methods they accept, and dedicated counters are available to help travelers link their cards to mobile payment systems.

  1. Expanded Currency Exchange Options

Three new currency exchange counters have been added at Pudong Airport, along with a temporary counter at Hongqiao Airport, bringing the total to 16 exchange points, seven bank branches, and five ATMs compatible with international cards.

  1. Improved Customs and Baggage Services

Pudong Airport has worked closely with Customs and Border Control to optimize the customs clearance process by adding multiple new stations for form filling, bilingual instructions, and visual indicators of baggage handling at international carousels, which helps travelers anticipate when their luggage will be available.

  1. All-in-one “Inbound Facilitation Service Point”

Both airports now feature a comprehensive service center in their arrival halls, offering everything from Wi-Fi setup and SIM card purchases to currency exchange and mobile payment assistance. These centers also provide guidebooks in multiple languages to assist international travelers in navigating the services available to them.
