Godhra (Gujarat): Gujarat Police has filed a criminal case against Tushar Bhatt – a teacher who was appointed as Deputy Superintendent at NEET UG 2024 exam centre in Godhra, for promising to help students in return of INR 10 lakh.

'Leave paper blank'

Tushar Bhatt, a Physics teacher with the help of his aides Parsuram Roy and Arif Vora, had asked as many as six students to leave their NEET UG answer sheet blank. They said the answer sheets will be filled by experts after the exam is over.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had conducted National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical courses MBBS, BDS and others on Sunday May 05, 2024. More than 24 lakh students from India and abroad had appeared in the important medical entrance exams conducted from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM.

As per the FIR lodged at the Godhra Taluka Police Station on a complaint of the District Education Officer, Bhatt was working as a teacher at Jay Jalaram School and was appointed the Deputy Centre Superintendent for the NEET exam.

The accused had asked the medical aspirants to leave blank questions whose answers they did not know. The answers to these questions were to be written once the papers were collected after the exam, as per the FIR details.

Cash recovered from accused

A team of District Additional Collector and District Education Officer reached the school on the day of the examination and questioned Bhatt.

When they checked his mobile phone, they found a list of 16 candidates with their names, roll numbers and exam centres which was sent to his WhatsApp number by co-accused Roy, stated the FIR.

When asked about the list, Bhatt said these were candidates who were to take the NEET exam at his centre. He confessed to having been promised 10 lakh each to solve the question papers of six of these candidates, District Education Officer Kirit Patel said.

The police has also recovered 7 lakh cash from Bhatt's car which was paid to him by Vora as advance, said the police.

The NEET UG exam this year has been marred by controversies ever since it was conducted on May 05, 2024. A day before the exam, a video surfaced on social media claiming that NEET UG 2024 question papers could be leaked.

In the midst of the exam on May 05, 2024, reports went viral claiming that the NEET UG paper has indeed been leaked.

The National Testing Agency however refuted all these reports and said the exam was held in fully transparent manner.
