Pros
Beautiful wood frame
Incredible price
Weather resistant cushions are light and easy to move
Cons
Cover comes separate
Currently the matching chairs are sold out
Normally, we wouldn't throw the "Best Overall" category to a product on Amazon, but outdoor sofas are a little bit different. The lifespan is always going to be a bit shorter because of the stress they're under. So, it's one place where we don't mind the super cheap options.
That said, this one is cheap and it looks amazing. The acacia wood frame is the obvious standout. Out of the box, it's beautiful. As time goes on, it'll fade a little bit, but it doesn't discolor in the same way teak wood does.
That said, acacia does require extra care that teak wood doesn't. Keep it covered and dry, of course. But, you might also need to give it some teak oil more often than actual teak. It's case by case, but generally you'll be caring for it about twice as much as you would teak.
Dimensions | 67.75”W x 32.25”D x 24.00”H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Acacia Wood |
Pros
Easy weather protection
Modular
Great size options
Cons
Pricey
It's kind of crazy that this hasn't been done in any meaningful capacity until now. Upstart brand Outer makes outdoor furniture with a built in cover. The cover rolls up and neatly sits behind the back cushions. Then, it rolls out just as easily to keep your seats protected from the elements. It sounds simple, but it's truly miles better than fooling around with a full cover or tarp.
Dimensions | 97.9" x 34.4" x 29" |
---|---|
Base material | Certified grade-A teak wood |
Pros
Cheap
Doesn't look too bad
Plastic wicker frame requires almost no upkeep
Cons
Not the best looking
Cushions are the most comfortable, but at least they are lightweight
For more of a standard patio furniture look, this couch isn't a bad shout. The look is classic, and you can grab a full set on Amazon.
The plastic frame requires practically no upkeep. If it weren't for the cushions, this thing could be fully exposed to the elements no problem. All you need to do is cover it or pull the cushions before it rains. That's it.
Dimensions | 79"W x 29.5"D x 28.7"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Polyethylene (Plastic) |
Pros
High-class look
Aluminum frame is easy to care for
Comes with a cover
Cons
Pricey
Only a few cushion colors
In terms of a true luxury outdoor sofa, we love Arhaus. First, it looks incredible, truly a work of art. It's like something from your dream hotel pool.
Second, it's as easy to take care of as those cheap plastic options. The aluminum frame is powder coated to make it weather-resistant, rustproof, and UV-resistant. All you need to do with the frame is occasionally dust it and hose off any debris. As for the cushions, they're comfortable and more durable than anything else on the market.
Dimensions | 86"W x 43"D x 30"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Powder Coated Aluminum |
Pros
Not a bad price
Daybed is a bit more versatile than a sofa or love seat
Wood frame is beautiful
Cons
Only two color options, and the other is gray and boring
Again, acacia wood needs a little care
If you want the laid back feel of a lounge chair but with more substance, go for a daybed or long chaise. This one from Article is our favorite.
The acacia wood frame steals the show when you see it online, but the comfort of this chaise is the real standout. It's the perfect place to lay out for a nap or a tan, but there's space for multiple people when you're throwing a party. It's versatile, looks good, and is more affordable than a full sofa alternative.
Dimensions | 32.75"W x 69.25"D x 22"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Acacia Wood with Powder Coated Steel Legs |
Pros
Versatile, great with or without the cushions
One-over-one cushion is easy to remove at once
Powder coated frame stands up to the elements
Cons
Cushion costs an extra $1,000
Modern look isn't for everyone
The sofa after this is straight up no-cushions, for those of you that don't want to fuss over your outdoor furniture. But if you want something flexible, this sofa from Williams Sonoma is the best one we found.
First, without the cushions. It's comfortable, all-weather ready, and it has a sleek greyscale look. For when it's just you and your family hanging out on the patio before the rain rolls in, it's amazing. Then, when guests are coming over or you want to spend all day on the sofa, there's several one-over-one cushions to choose from. The basket weave cabana stripe in green is our favorite in person, but the solid options really pop as well.
Dimensions | 96"W x 28.5"D x 31.75"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Powder-Coated Aluminum |
Pros
Affordable
The wicker back and seat require zero upkeep
Comfortably seats multiple people
Cons
Curved back makes it a more rigid seating experience
Still have to care for the wood
Dealing with moving and covering cushions can be the worst part of outdoor furniture. It's fine to occasionally forget them during a storm, but do it multiple times and you're just washing money down the drain. To stifle our own absent mindedness, we love a sofa that doesn't have any cushions whatsoever. That also helps keep the price down.
The curved backrest gives this sofa three distinct seats. It's great for a party, but when you want to lay out, it makes that difficult.
Dimensions | 75''W x 30.7''D x 33'' H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Plastic Wicker and Acacia Wood |
Pros
Can change the way you use it by raising and lowering armrests
Daybed version is good for laying out
Has a pull out tray table
Cons
Armrest seats aren't that sturdy
Only the one color
We love the flexibility of this outdoor loveseat. Keep the armrests up for a true loveseat, or lower one for another chaise/daybed deal. Lower both, and it's about the size of the other large sofas on this list.
As you'd imaging though, when folded down, the armrest seats aren't primed for full weight. Can just add a tad of seating for a kid or half an adult.
Dimensions | 75"W x 23.5"D x 30.5"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Eucalyptus Wood |
Pros
Straight up beautiful
Not the most difficult to care for
Incredibly comfortable
Cons
High price tag
It's quite a wide sofa, takes up a lot of space
If you’re really intentional about design, Soho Home is your go-to. The Gaspard sofa looks like came off the set of Jacques Deray's La Piscine. It's beautiful.
The frame gives it an incredible mid-century look. The cushions are deep and comfortable. The acrylic fabric is durable and only requires a cover when the weather gets real bad.
Dimensions | 108.7"W x 25.2"D x 16.3"H |
---|---|
Frame Material | Stainless Steel |
Pros
Easy to care for
Looks sleek and modern, but still inviting
Sunbrella fabric cushion covers
Cons
Cover is sold separately
There's a serious disconnect with a lot of outdoor furniture. You have to trade off between "Easy to Care For" and "Looks Good." If my Deep South upbringing taught me anything, it's that rattan is the only material that combines both. Rattan—when styled correctly, as CB2 and Ross Cassidy have done here—looks phenomenal, but it's a million times easier to care for than teak wood.
The rounded, dynamic mid-century shape makes this sofa look designer, which you never typically get in rattan. And, because today's rattans are mostly synthetic, they're incredibly water-resistant, sun-resistant, and don't get mildew-y like teak occasionally does.
Dimensions | 86.75" x 36.75" x 31" |
---|---|
Base Material | Synthetic Rattan |
Pros
Lightweight
Disassembles and packs down
Rugged build
Cons
Small
Made to be packed into a carry case and brought to the campsite, that also makes this Snow Peak outdoor futon a great option for apartment living. Need more space for a party? Pack it up and put it away. Landlord raised your rent? Pack it up and carry it to the next place.
Also helpful is that it’s genuinely comfortable, easy to clean, and quite sturdy in relation to its minuscule 38-pound weight.
Dimensions | 58.8" x 29.5" x 12" |
---|---|
Base Material | Aluminum Alloy |
Pros
Great price
Surprisingly comfortable
Glass top coffee table included
Cons
Not the best quality
Price tags on this list making you sweat? No worries. You can grab a totally capable, and surprisingly comfortable, sectional (with coffee table!) on Amazon. All totaled: You pay under $500. Crazy!
Sure, the build quality won't match others on this list. But it'll blend in with any decor, and that modular sectional makes it incredibly versatile.
Item Dimensions LxWxH | 30.31" x 28.74" x 16.51" |
---|---|
Base material | Plastic wicker |
Pros
Great size
Modular
No assembly
Cons
Requires a big space
What's the best thing about an outdoor sofa? We say, the afternoon nap. This sectional lets you stretch out, while your partner, guest, or whoever, has space to sit and enjoy the day as well.
We especially love the contrast of wood on black upholstery, but the alabaster isn't a bad option, either.
Chaise dimensions | 40.5" x 60.5" x 33" |
---|---|
Sofa dimensions | 69" x 40.5" x 33" |
Base material | Mahogany and eucalyptus wood |
Pros
Clean lines
Lightweight aluminum frame
Cons
Look isn't for everyone
You've got your house setup like a cool Berlin art director you saw on Instagram. There are stacks of design books, tidy bookshelves, a lot of sharp lines. Most outdoor furniture is too homey for you. It fucks up your vision.
This option from Crate & Barrel is the only answer that isn't at an insane price point. Sharp lines, a minimal base, and that so hard to find all-black design. Chic!
But if you want something modern, but... toned down, it also comes in navy, taupe, and a black/white. All of which will fit seamlessly with the rest of your decor.
Dimensions | 68.9" x 34.25" x 28.74" |
---|---|
Base material | Aluminum |
Pros
Cool look
Sturdy iron frame
Tasteful vintage look
Cons
Not great for lounging
We love the Country Club Summer look of these striped cushions from CB2. If you've got a lush, green outdoors space, the complementing red will look so, so nice. But if you want something that'll blend in with any space, the white and charcoal options look just as good.
Complete the set with a matching chair or two.
Dimensions | 59.5" x 29" x 32.25" |
---|---|
Base material | Iron |
Pros
Space saving design
Modular system
Great for lounging
Cons
Only one upholstery opotion
We get that Anthropologie's boho look doesn't appeal to all, but this is a pretty toned down version of it. Plus, the chaise-esque design makes it perfect option for lounging, and it really helps it fit into a small outdoors space. Push that cushioned side into a corner, and you've got a full couch that still keeps your space open.
Or if you have the space, combine this half sofa with its counterpart for a very large seating arrangement. Then complete the look with everything else.
Dimensions | 69" x 24" x 36" |
---|---|
Base material | Teak wood |
Pros
Beautiful teak base
Three-seat size (two-seat also available)
Plush cushions
Cons
Pricey
If you're a real design lover, this option Studio Tolvanen did for Design Within Reach will satisfy you. A teak base with tapered legs makes it feel vintage. But the big, plush cushions offer you the comfort of a brand new sofa.
Dimensions | 33.1" x 106.5" x 36.2" |
---|---|
Base material | Teak wood |
Pros
Easy to clean
Several color options
Good price
Cons
Not the most comfortable
In love with Scandinavian design? The folks over at HAY make a nice and easy to clean outdoor sofa. The metal design resembles a park bench, but with the matching cushion it ends up being a lot more comfortable. Plus, that metal makes it easy to clean, and guarantees it'll last forever.
Dimensions | 27.5" x 54.75" x 34.65" |
---|---|
Base material | Powder-coated steel |
Pros
Conversation pit design
Interior armrests/side tables
Cons
Really requires a large space
If you've got a truly large outdoor space, the circular design of this system from FrontGate is where you should go. This five-piece system gives you plenty of seating, with the luxury of side tables for the middle section.
But the real plus is that circular shape. One, it's eye catching and makes a great center to the space. Two, the shape creates a natural conversation pit. It breaks up a large space in a way that feels natural.
Dimensions | 135" (circular) x 38-1/2" x 26" |
---|---|
Base material | High-density plastic |
What to Consider When Buying an Outdoor Sofa

We do a lot of vibes testing, but there are a few hard and fast things we look for in outdoor sofas.
Materials - Most important of all, especially if the sofa is in direct sun or rain, are the materials. For the frame, teak and acacia wood are great options, as are aluminum and steel, or even a plastic wicker.
Looks - Obviously, you want your outdoor space to look nice. Realistically we'd prefer something from a proper designer, even if that ups the price, but it will live outside. Don't spend on something you're not ready to see age.
Price - Speaking of upping the price, it's in direct opposition to the looks. Still, even when we went for budget options, we tried to keep a certain amount of taste.
Ease of Use - Does it come with a waterproof cover? If you need to move the cushions, how heavy are they? Could you replace the covers?
