ALOHA, Ore. — Deputies arrested a suspect accused of murdering a man in Washington County on Wednesday.

Around 6:11 a.m., deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a death investigation near Southwest Rachelle Court and Southwest 203rd Avenue. Investigators learned that 53-year-old Chad Thibodeaux died after experiencing trauma to his head. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Austin Chan, initially got away but witnesses provided a description of him to patrol deputies, the sheriff's office said.

A deputy found Chan less than a mile away near the intersection of Southwest 158th Avenue and Southwest Tualatin Valley Highway and took him into custody just before 7 a.m.

Chan was taken to the Washington County Jail on the charge of murder in the second degree and could face additional charges.

The sheriff's office said Thibodeaux knew Chan, but did not provide any other information.
