Mother’s Day is this Sunday, so if your greeting card isn’t in the mail, make sure to hop on the phone and call your mom. According to some fun trivia in “Town and Country” magazine, 122 million calls are made on the second Sunday in May each year and the greeting card is the most popular gift with 152 million Mother’s Day cards sent out annually. Mother’s Day also marks the third highest-selling holiday for flowers and plants, behind Valentine’s Day and the Christmas/Hanukkah season.
If you can celebrate with your mom in person, here are a few ideas on what to do and where to go in the Vail Valley. Taking mom out to eat is a popular option, but make a reservation as Mother’s Day also is typically a busy day for restaurants.
Dining Options
Stoke & Rye

Stoke & Rye at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa will offer a Mother’s Day buffet featuring an omelet and seafood station, biscuits and chorizo with gravy, a dessert bar and more. Executive chef Kevin Erving of Leonora Restaurant at The Sebastian Vail has been working on a menu that includes all your brunch classics and more like made-to-order omelets and waffles, strawberry rhubarb baked French toast, roasted prime rib and honey roasted salmon. Adults are priced at $75 and kids 12 and under are $45. To make mom feel even more special, there are complimentary mimosas for each mother. Everyone can join the party with Bottomless Mimosas for $30. Brunch is from 9 a.m. to noon with live music starting at 10 a.m. Call 970-477-8050 for reservations.
La Tour
La Tour restaurant in Vail is inviting moms to come in for a special Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Indulge in some wild Burgundy escargot or a warm basket of madeleines dipped in lemon curd for the table before moving on to the next course of omelet du fromage with creamy gournay herb cheese or avocado toast with pepitas and hemp seeds. There are also bottomless mimosas or other fun cocktails like a strawberry gin fizz or a kir royale.
Northside Kitchen

Breakfast is always a good idea at Northside Coffee and Kitchen in Avon but it’s especially good because mom gets a free mimosa. Choose from some of their menu classics like filet n’ eggs, huevos rancheros or blueberry or chocolate pancakes. Busy during the day? Come in for dinner where mom will get a free glass of prosecco. Don’t forget, you get 25% off the entire dinner bill during offseason so indulge in lobster and shrimp risotto, filet mignon and Jim’s pesto Gnocchi.
Makoto Vail

Makoto Vail at Grand Hyatt Vail will also host a Mother’s Day dinner featuring a five-course dinner. $95 per person gets you the Kodai No Hana, a welcome cocktail with Tengu-No Doburoku sake, Haku Vodka, yuzu and agave nectar. Enjoy crudo santemore, with a choice of salmon truffle, hamachi onzu, or umami kanpachi. In addition to sushi, the meal includes Chef Makoto’s signature Koji Butter Dry Aged Steak served with smoked shishito sauce and Makoto Salad with wasabi miso dressing. Wrap up the meal with a great dessert. This is a must if your mom is a sushi lover.
