Kara Jackson knows how to stand on her own

Kara Jackson was introduced to the world as a poet.

But her first love — before the Chicago-area teen started writing verse and was named the 2019-2020 U.S. national youth poet laureate — was music.

Today, the 24-year-old is on a solo tour that obliterates the line between those genres. And to Jackson, the line barely existed in the first place.
