In a significant development aimed at bolstering the cooperative sector in India, Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary Cooperation unveiled the inaugural edition of the Quarterly Journal of the Cooperative Development Board (CDB) of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) on May 7, 2024.

The unveiling ceremony, orchestrated by ICMAI in collaboration with the National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT), marked a pivotal milestone following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two entities.

The event underscored their collective commitment to fostering the growth and development of the cooperative sector within the country. During the event, ICMAI and NCCT officials briefed Dr. Bhutani on their strategic roadmap, encompassing four key pillars aimed at supporting the government’s endeavors in advancing the cooperative sector.

These pillars included the development of high-quality publications, tailored programs and courses catering to diverse stakeholder groups, rigorous research initiatives, and consultancy services.

Bhutani commended the collaborative efforts of ICMAI and NCCT, acknowledging their role as proactive think tanks and valuable knowledge repositories. He, along with Shri. Mohan Kumar Mishra ji, Secretary of NCCT, ceremoniously signed the first copy of the journal, reaffirming their unwavering support to CMA Navneet Kumar Jain, Chairman of CDB.

In addition to presenting a comprehensive overview of their past endeavors and future plans, the ICMAI delegation seized the opportunity to advocate for the inclusion of Cost Accountants as auditors under Section 72(1) and as Special Auditors under Section 77(1) of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.

Dr. Bhutani assured the delegation of a thorough consideration of their proposal, further expressing his willingness to explore collaborative initiatives between the Ministry and the Institute.

Concluding the proceedings, CMA Navneet Kumar Jain sought Dr. Bhutani’s support for commemorating July 6, 2024, as the ‘International Day of Cooperatives.’

In response, Dr. Bhutani extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Institute for this initiative, pledging his active participation and steadfast support for the planned events on the designated day.
