The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is set to launch the four-day “Experience Macao” roadshow in Jakarta, Indonesia starting this Thursday (9 May), preceded by the “Macao Tourism + MICE Product Updates Seminar & Travel Mart” on Wednesday (8 May). This event will provide locals and travel professionals a comprehensive overview of Macao as an enticing destination and foster connections between Macao and Indonesian tourism enterprises, enhancing Macao’s presence in global markets.
The roadshow, MGTO’s first major promotional event in Indonesia, will take place at Central Park Mall from 9 to 12 May, under the theme “EXPERIENCE MACAO”. It will showcase Macao’s rich array of tourism attractions, featuring interactive games, photo opportunities with Macao Tourism Mascot MAK MAK, and exhibitions by Air Macau and six integrated resort enterprises displaying their tourism facilities and offerings. Furthermore, Air Macau, along with nine local Indonesian travel agencies, will present exclusive deals on a variety of tourism products, aiming to increase tourist visits to Macao.
The “Macao Tourism + MICE Product Updates Seminar & Travel Mart” is scheduled for Wednesday (8 May) at Pullman Jakarta Central Park. Indonesian travel professionals will learn about the latest trends in Macao’s tourism and MICE sectors, followed by a networking event with Macao representatives to foster business collaborations and explore market opportunities, aiming for a mutual increase in tourist arrivals.
Visitor statistics from January to March 2024 indicate Indonesia as Macao’s seventh largest and fourth largest international visitor market. Indonesia has been identified as a burgeoning market in Southeast Asia. To enhance this relationship, the Office hosted Indonesian travel professionals in Macao for a familiarization trip in July 2023 and organized a networking seminar. Additionally, in September 2023 and March 2024, the Office promoted Macao at the ASTINDO Travel Fair in Indonesia, showcasing Macao as a prime destination and engaging Southeast Asian travelers.
Since introducing direct flights between Macao and Jakarta in November 2023 and increasing direct air services with other Southeast Asian destinations, MGTO has escalated its marketing efforts, including special airfare promotions with airlines to position Macao as a top international destination. These efforts are supported by a mix of online and offline marketing strategies, including the Experience Macao roadshow, aimed at stimulating interest among Indonesians to explore the vibrant offerings of Macao and expand the diversity of its international visitors.
MGTO has actively promoted Macao globally through various marketing campaigns since lifting travel restrictions last year. These include advertisements, roadshows, trade familiarization visits, and travel fairs across Southeast and Northeast Asia to boost international tourism and contribute to economic recovery.
