The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a ceremony May 16 at the Weld County Fallen Officer Memorial at Bittersweet Park in Greeley.

The ceremony — which will feature former Weld County Sheriff and Colorado State Senator John Cooke as guest speaker — will begin at 6 p.m., according to a release. During the ceremony, the names of the 136 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2023 will be read aloud.

“It is an important event that honors the men and women in law enforcement and aims to preserve and reflect on the legacies of those we have lost in the line of duty,” Sheriff Steve Reams said.

New this year, an Eagle Scout troop from the Boy Scouts of America added marble engravings to the monument, an addition that shares more information about each officer who is honored at the memorial.

The event is part of Police Week, which runs from May 12 to May 18.
