Vasco: During this Lok Sabha election, content creators are leveraging social media platforms to raise awareness, urging voters to make informed choices. In just 48 hours, a content creator from Goa garnered over 4,000 likes and 173 comments by highlighting an issue in Vasco and urging the residents to vote wisely.

On Instagram, a content creator and storyteller known as Vrishakha, operating under the account style_in_a_suitcase, crafted a compelling short reel that captured the attention of viewers not only from Goa but also from other states. The reel portrayed a startling image of environmental degradation. It commenced with the words, “its election time in Goa, so let me take you all to a site in Goa that will leave you completely mind-blown.”

In the reel, the scenery of Khariawada beach, strewn with litter along the shore, is prominently featured. Vrishakha expresses her deep disturbance upon arriving at the site. What’s even more alarming is the revelation that the fish caught in this area are being directly supplied to the Vasco fish market. She further highlights the distressing trend of Goan beaches being inundated with debris.

The reel concludes with a poignant message: “It’s high time we elect people who genuinely care about Goa and are committed to working for its betterment, rather than those who fail to take action.” Viewers reacted with shock upon witnessing the extent of debris, with many eagerly inquiring about the location. While some said that it is the individual responsibility in the waste management, others directed criticism towards the government for its apparent lack of action.

When ‘The Navhind Times’ conducted a personal visit to verify the authenticity of the reel, it was found that debris were scattered across the shore, perilously close to the waves, which were carrying the garbage and filthy water directly through the nullah and into the Arabian Sea.
