Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed lower in the Friday's session.

Mawana Sugars Ltd.(up 0.16%) stood among the top gainers.

Bannari Amman Sugars Ltd.(down 3.34%), Simbhaoli Sugars Ltd.(down 3.04%), Avadh Sugar & Energy Ltd.(down 2.92%), DCM Shriram Industries Ltd.(down 2.68%), Sakthi Sugars Ltd.(down 2.55%), Ponni Sugars(Erode)Ltd.(down 2.14%), Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd.(down 2.07%), KCP Sugar & Industries Corporation Ltd.(down 2.04%), Kothari Sugars & Chemicals Ltd.(down 1.74%) and Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd.(down 1.68%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 172.36 points down at 22475.85, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 732.96 points at 73878.15.

Coal India Ltd.(up 4.57%), Grasim Industries Ltd.(up 1.81%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.(up 1.17%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.(up 0.99%), Hindalco Industries Ltd.(up 0.89%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd.(up 0.86%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd.(up 0.74%), Bajaj Finance Ltd.(up 0.71%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.36%) and Cipla Ltd.(up 0.34%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro Ltd.(down 2.77%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.(down 2.45%), Nestle India Ltd.(down 2.24%), Reliance Industries Ltd.(down 2.22%), Bharti Airtel Ltd.(down 2.05%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(down 1.84%), HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd.(down 1.82%), JSW Steel Ltd.(down 1.82%), UltraTech Cement Ltd.(down 1.68%) and Asian Paints Ltd.(down 1.54%) closed in the red.
