Job actions are commonplace across Europe as workers cease operations to demand improved wages and working conditions. Some of these industrial actions are scheduled well in advance, while others are abruptly declared, underscoring the importance of staying informed before traveling.

Here is a compilation of current labor disputes:

UK: Heathrow Airport Faces Multiple Strikes
At London’s Heathrow Airport, Border Force staff are staging a strike from April 29 to May 2 in protest against job cuts, potentially leading to significant delays for international travelers.

Following this, a smaller ‘work-to-rule’ protest is slated from May 3-18, likely causing additional disruptions.

Moreover, a significant strike involving nearly 800 airport employees is set for May 7-13, which could severely affect operations.

On a positive note, a potential strike by fueling staff during the May bank holiday (May 4-6) has been averted following a successful negotiation on wages and terms.

Gatwick Airport: Food Service Workers on Strike
Travelers on easyJet and TUI flights from Gatwick Airport might face a lack of onboard meals as Dnata catering staff have announced strikes. Approximately 100 employees, including truck drivers and warehouse staff, will protest from May 3-6 and May 10-13. The union has warned of escalating actions if wage disputes are not resolved.

Train Disruptions in the UK
No nationwide train strike is imminent, but localized actions are scheduled throughout April and May.

The London Underground will experience potential station closures due to an overtime ban from April 29 to May 5.

Train drivers from the ASLEF union are preparing to strike on May 8, with an ongoing overtime ban from May 6-11 likely affecting services on several lines including Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, and more.

Belgium: Charleroi Airport to Experience Strike
A 24-hour strike at Brussels’ Charleroi Airport is scheduled for May 2, prompted by worker grievances over conditions, affecting roughly 100 flights as negotiations continue.

France: Strike Threats During Paris Olympics
Members of the CGT-RATP union have put forth a strike notice spanning from February 5 to September 9, potentially disrupting the Paris Olympic Games. However, a recent Senate bill could restrict transport strikes during significant events if passed by the French National Assembly.

Germany: End to Strike Threats
Following five months of discussions, Deutsche Bahn and the GDL train drivers’ union reached an agreement on March 25, preventing strikes until at least February 2026. Additionally, Verdi union has canceled planned strikes at various German airports after securing a pay agreement.
