ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Co., part of Exxon Mobil Corp., has partnered with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) to establish a laboratory for low-carbon solutions.
The ExxonMobil-NTU-A*STAR Corporate Lab will focus on converting biomass to fuels with lower greenhouse gas emissions, as well as on carbon capture and utilization using by-product industrial brines. Researchers at the lab will also explore technologies that turn methane into low-carbon hydrogen and solid carbon material and explore the large-scale application of carbon in concrete, NTU said in a press release.
“Corporate labs allow companies to draw on Singapore’s strong foundation of scientific capabilities to address real-world challenges. The partnership between industry and academia helps to strengthen the industry relevance of researchers’ R&D and enables innovative enterprises to stay globally competitive through gaining insights into new application possibilities”, the university said.
The lab has a funding of SGD 60 million ($44.1 million), NTU said.
