Call of Duty competitor XDefiant is finally coming out this month

Ubisoft’s XDefiant, a first-person shooter meant to take on the likes of Call of Duty, will finally get a wide release and enter its Preseason on May 21.

Ubisoft San Francisco announced XDefiant in July 2021 and has held several rounds of testing for the game since then. It’s a 6v6 competitive shooter being worked on by former Call of Duty developers, where the main hook is that each faction is based on a Ubisoft franchise. Series like Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, The Division, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs are all represented here. After years of testing, Ubisoft initially promised a wide release for XDefiant sometime around September or October of 2023, but delayed the game after a public test session.

Ubisoft then planned to release XDefiant by the end of March of this year, but missed that window as well. A report by Insider Gaming around that time claimed its development team had a toxic “boys club- like mentality that led to the problems and trend-chasing that resulted in these delays. Executive Producer Mark Rubin refuted some of these claims, and it now seems like Ubisoft is at a point where it feels confident enough to do a wide release of XDefiant.

It will begin with a six-week “Preseason” that features five playable factions, five modes, 14 maps, and 24 different weapons. In the same blog that revealed the launch date, Ubisoft promised to add four more factions, 12 new weapons, and 12 new maps over the course of XDefiant’s first year, which will consist of four seasons that last three months each. At 10 a.m. PT on May 21, XDefiant will become available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be a free-to-play title from the day it launches.

The highly anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 Season 3 will include a long-requested feature that fans have been clamoring for. The update will feature the return of one-shot snipers, which have been absent from Warzone 2.0 since its launch (with a couple of temporary exceptions here and there). Activision shared the news via a blog post, which featured more details about what to expect from the upcoming season.

Previously, it would take at least two shots to down a fully-plated enemy in Warzone 2.0, which effectively rendered snipers useless. Since the game's launch in November 2022, a large portion of the community has requested that one-shot snipers be added back into the game. Activision's blog gives a bit of detail about what to expect from the chance.

Valheim finally comes to Xbox next month with full crossplay

Iron Gate Studio and Coffee Stain Publishing confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One versions of Valheim will finally launch on March 14. The early access Xbox Game Preview title will be included as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription when it releases on consoles, as it is already available via the PC version of the service.

The announcement came as part of IGN's 2023 Fan Fest event. In addition to a release date announcement, we also saw a gameplay trailer showing it running on Xbox Series X, which seemed on par with how the game runs on higher-end PCs. We also learned that Valheim will support full crossplay between PC and Xbox consoles when it finally launches. This release marks the first time Valheim will be available on console since the fantasy survival game rose to popularity in early 2021. For the time being, this also means that Valheim is an Xbox console exclusive.
