One UI 6.1 downloaded by nearly 10 million users in one month

Galaxy AI, the suite of AI features that debuted on the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year, has proven to be quite popular, with one-fourth of Galaxy S24 buyers getting the new flagship because of its AI capabilities.

Samsung is also bringing Galaxy AI to several phones launched before the Galaxy S24 series and wants to make it accessible to more than 100 million users by the end of the year. But will the company achieve that goal? Only time will tell, though the chances are high if we go by some One UI 6.1 download figures shared by Samsung Netherlands.

The One UI 6.1 rollout for older devices started on March 28, and in just over a month, Samsung claims that 8.8 million users have downloaded the update. That's impressive, considering One UI 6.1–and Galaxy AI–is only available for flagship Galaxy devices launched in 2023 right now.

According to Samsung (machine translated), the “One UI 6.1 update was downloaded by almost 75% of European Galaxy Z Fold5 users, 80% of S23 Ultra users and almost 65% of Tab S9 users, making it one of Samsung's most popular software updates ever.”

This month, One UI 6.1 will be made available to Galaxy flagships launched in 2022 and 2021. Samsung still doesn't say when–or if–budget and mid-range devices will get the new version of One UI. We wouldn't be surprised if it decides to just skip One UI 6.1 for all non-flagship devices as those aren't eligible for Galaxy AI and One UI 6.1 is a very boring update when AI features are taken out of the equation.

5 things I wish Samsung Galaxy AI could help me with

Galaxy AI is a wonderful introduction to what artificial intelligence can do for smartphones. Samsung has benefitted from the first-mover advantage, as it has established itself as the only major smartphone vendor to bring AI features to smartphones, even though others have made some similar efforts. Samsung’s marketing blitz around Galaxy AI and the fact […]

Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite now supports one extra language

As helpful as Galaxy AI features can be to many users, it can be equally useless for others whose languages are not supported. Unlike other Samsung features that are region-locked — like Good Lock — Galaxy AI is available virtually everywhere. However, it does have limitations and doesn't support every language, which means that for […]
