Panaji: In the wake of Usgao villagers facing irregular water supply, the High Court of Bombay at Goa directed an engineer of the Water Resources Department (WRD) to visit the village and monitor the water situation and, accordingly, file a report on it on May 6.

A petition in this regard has been filed by Rohan Naik. The High Court also granted the petitioner the liberty to file a report if there was any variance in the junior engineer’s observations.

A counsel, representing the government, said as per executive engineer of the works division XXI (WRD) the water supply to the village of Usgao, Ponda is regular and there is no shortage problem. He stated that May 6 an affidavit will be filed before the court.

On the other hand, the petitioner’s counsel maintained that Usgao villagers were not receiving water on a regular basis. However, the High Court said that “at present, we go by the government counsel’s statement that there is no serious water supply issue at Usgao and the water is being regularly supplied to the villagers.” The matter will now come up on May 6.
