A Government-backed group set up to promote corporate gender balance says the target for women in leadership roles should be lifted to 40pc, after the last female CEO of an Irish PLC stood down this week.

Margaret Sweeney stepped down from her role as chief executive of Irish Residential Properties (Ires) Reit yesterday, with Eddie Byrne moving into the top job today.
